Howl's Moving Castle

0 Review

Howl's Moving Castle is a 2004 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli and based on Diana Wynne Jones' novel of the same name. Mamoru Hosoda, director of one season and two movies from the Digimon series, was originally selected to direct but abruptly left the project, leaving the then-retired Miyazaki to take up the director's role.

The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 78th Academy Awards in 2006. (from Wikipedia)

========================================

-synopsis/storyline-

First they show a hazy smoke that comes our from the train and then showing Sophie Hatter was sewing some high-classed hat, then her friends ask her if she wants to go out with them but was rejected. But still she went out, wanted to visit her sister, Lettie Hatter, who works as a shopkeeper (i guess) and everyone likes her due to her cuteness (but in truth i think both of them are not pretty at all, compare to Chihiro's cute and chubby face from Spirited Away) On her way to the shop, two soldier blocked her way and wanted her to be their love interest but was saved by a yellow haired man with magics. Then they encounter some black-ink-like thingy and they walked away in the air peacefully and without anyone knowing.

Then she met her sister and all those introducing about how loyalty she is to her jobs and so on. then she went back and she met and fat customer. Sophie intend to ask her to go out because the shop is closing but was later cursed by this Witch of the Waste (which is the fat lady just now, SO FAT, THAT YOU CAN'T EVEN SEE HER TRACHEA, SHE'S MORE LIKE BLANKET) and Sophie turned into an old woman. She was shocked, of course, and she went back to her bed like an old woman.

The next day, Lattie visits her but Sophie didn't want her to see her old face and using sore-throat as an excuse. After Lattie went back, she sneaks out of her room and leaves her hometown...like an old woman. Then she meets Turnip head which was trap in a bushes and was saved by her...like an old woman. During her trip she saw a big castle like thing but its moving, she realize that its the famous Howl's Moving Castle, immediately she rushes into the Castle...like an old woman, and her adventure starts...

Not as good as Spirited Away, a little bit disappointed thanks to the music and characters and story-flow. The music isn't as epic as Spirited Away, they should make the whole music like "WHOA!!!" when she saw the Moving castle, and some "what's in there" when she's looking what's inside the castle and so on. The character, especially Sophie, who should be pretty before she was old. if you noticed her eye brow was simply too thick, which makes her more like fierce than friendly and kind. And i don't like the story-flow, they didn't tell us why the war started in the first place and the prince's disappearance (which turns into a turnip-head) and they didn't show the relationship between howl and sophie.

But besides that the movie's fine, the background, the castle, and the action. The background was dark and evil when Howl joins the battle, and the castle is simply epic, and the action is detailed as usual.

I wish that, if Hayao Miyazaki wants to make another movie, hope he can improve all the mistake i pointed out, if there's any mistake or more than what i pointed out, comment as you wish.

The United States Of Leland

0 Review

The United States of Leland is a 2003 American drama film by director Matthew Ryan Hoge and producer Kevin Spacey about a meek teenaged boy named Leland P. Fitzgerald (Ryan Gosling) who has inexplicably committed a shocking murder. In the wake of the killing, his teacher in prison tries to understand the senseless crime, while the families of the victim and the perpetrator struggle to cope with the aftermath.

( from: wikipedia )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've been so lazy to start this post. here you go, interesting movie of Ryan Gosling's. This is a rather touching story.

The United States of Leland is about a teenage boy Leland Fitzgerald (ryan gosling) who murdered a mentally retard boy named ryan pollard. And the only reason he gave is: sadness.

i do get what he mean. Leland himself, experienced the sadness of losing his grandmother, and travelled all way long to see his father (a very famous author) but father refuse to see him.

Leland has been walking the pollard boy home almost everyday. Leland has been seeing his life ever since he walk him home. for all audience who watched the movie, they don't hate leland for killing the boy. they don't blame him. There is nothing you can do. This is the strongest point in the story.

Often i find myself asking, Is leland that bad? or is he too kind? did he really helped the boy? or ruined his life? is leland the devil? or an angel? i see the retarded boy pollard myself, waiting for his sister to walk him home but the sister never appear; fell in love with a girl, but never had the chance to tell her. of course, his death causes an big impact on the pollard family.

the movie's flow is in one straight line. not so much of up and down. so quiet, so calm, yet you can feel the emotion in it.

Ryan Gosling is a good actor. His acting impressed so many people. and he is doing Leland real good.
Same goes to the other actor and actress. But one thing, i'm so not used to it of Michelle William acting as a "young girl". i always see her as a really matured girl.

The soundtrack, by jeremy enigk, matches the movie very well. And my sister loves all the soundtrack used in it. basically the music is the one that brings out the emotions, the flow runs well with the soundtrack.

i will end my review here.

feel free to comment or post your review on this movie. :)

Spirited Away 千与千尋の神隠少女(Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi)

0 Review

Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi?, literally, Sen and Chihiro's Spiriting Away) is a 2001 Japanese animated film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and produced by Studio Ghibli. The film follows a sullen ten-year-old girl who is in the process of moving to a new town (presumably in the countryside) with her family, and chronicles her adventures in a world of spirits and monsters.

The film received many awards, including the second Oscar ever awarded for Best Animated Feature, the first anime film to win an Academy Award, and the first (and so far only) non-English speaking animation to win. The film also won the Golden Bear at the 2002 Berlin International Film Festival (tied with Bloody Sunday) and is among the top ten in the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14.

Spirited Away overtook Titanic in the Japanese box office to become the highest-grossing film in Japanese history.
(from wikipedia)

This story is about Chihiro and her parents are moving to a new town. Chihiro dislikes the new town she's moving to (even poke her tongue and an angry expression) then they got lost and end up reaching an abandoned park. Their curiosity overpowered them and they explored the park, during their exploration, they smell something nice, so nice which they got attracted and leaving chihiro alone (but in the end, Chihiro still caught up with them) They found the food and eat it without permission, saying that they'll pay when the owner comes. Unlike her parents, she refuse to eat and wanders off. Then she met a boy name Haku (i thought Haku was a girl when i first watched, thanks to the hair) and that's when everything changes.

The reason I love this movie is because of its art (especially backgrounds), and every detail is shown, shadows, fabrics and so on.Every action, was so detail that even chasing, running or even one blink have to be shown as if they're real. And one of my favorite is the music, which is by Joe Hisaishi, (i think that its one of the reason it got awarded) the music is what makes me love this movie so much and oh my god i can't tell you guys how nice it was but it was ultimately awesome, you guys should try. The flow of the story is fine and you won't get confused like some movie which show this then something comes out out of nowhere.

This movie somehow is kinda wicked when it's suppose to (especially Yubaba's hideous face and hilariously huge yet short body, not to forget when chihiro's parents turn into a pig, sorta freaks me out) Though this movie is sorta romantic like and supernatural, it does contain some not-obvious comedy. Besides all that, i like the voice acting, the voice shows the characteristic of the character and so on.

Gothika

0 Review

Gothika is a 2003 American horror/psychological supernatural thriller directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and written by Sebastian Gutierrez. Halle Berry plays a psychiatrist in a women's mental hospital who wakes up one day to find herself on the other side of the bars, accused of having murdered her husband.

The film was first released on November 13, 2003 in the United States and later in 2004 outside of North America. At the time of its release, Gothika was the most successful film from Dark Castle Entertainment with $161 million.

(from wikipedia)

Gothika, the movie i watched on tv yesterday night.
before i watch this, i know nothing about the movie. i read HALF of the synopsis from the newspaper. saying its about a female psychiatrist, miranda, working in the mental hospital. And she find herself in the mental hospital one day being locked up for killing her husband. and that's where i stop reading. so i thought it's some kind of psychotic movie, with those people that thought they see ghost but actually its them who is the real problem - mental issue.

i didn't read the whole synopsis, and when i watch the movie, i was thinking, every scene looks like a horror movie. indeed, it is..im watching horror. i have hated horror in my wholeee life! and i can't believe im watching it. and i watched the whole thing.

find it pretty similar to the movie butterfly effect, and the machinist. the movie is night time, night time, and night time. and its because they're lock-up in the mental prison, it is always dark and scary. you can feel it if u see it.

The beauty of the film, is where Miranda first works in the mental hospital, trying to help the patient but end up she is one of them now. one of her patient chloe, told miranda she was possessed and Miranda wouldn't believe. until Miranda feel it and witness it herself, and finally know how chloe feel when the other doctors doesn't believe what she say.

Mathieu Kassovitz uses a blinking lights to signifies that spirits are nearby. honestly, when the lights are blinking at the hospital, it freaks me! cause i know something's there! Always, in a movie, you'll see something that signifies a certain thing that are going to happen. Just like blinking lights = spirits here..

although the movie is so lack of sun light, the director still take care of the shots very carefully. the angle, movement, expression shots are all handle very nicely.

i'll go on to the acting. Halle Berry as Dr. Miranda Grey. She can be so professional and self esteem when she's a doctor. and then she can looks extremely emotional and crazy when she is going through the "real hard" time.

Penelope Cruz as Chloe sava. i loved this character. i love her acting. i wanted to say " SHE HERSELF LOOKS LIKE A GHOST" . The beginning scene of hers talking bout herself raped by devil makes me feel cold~~~she's as good as "exorcism - emily rose".

for me, she is a very important character in this movie.

i guess i'll stop here. since im not a fans of horror movie. :P and in fact, i hated horror so much and i never write about horror. okok cause im scared =.= so i rate this movie 3 stars.
i'll post one part of the video here. sit back with a pillow and enjoy!

Transformer 2

0 Review

I'm pretty sure many people who watched will be writing a review as well..and many of those who haven't watch will be crazy booking tickets and even queue for whole day to get it. well, it happens at my place =)

It is a really great movie..this review is not gonna be very long. since its a "must watch" movie, and those who watched transformer 1 would probably watch the 2nd movie..i don't have to write a long one.

To be honest i feel the movie is abit too long and draggy, and the ending is too fast~If you notice the camera work, it was awesome..so as the actors. Michael Bay is a great director. i guess younger directors are more daring in doing action movies? Explosion are real..that's gonna kill the actors hey!!!of course not..just a joke!!

Megan Fox...getting hotter and hotter... well, i feel the director too emphasize on her hotness..those are scene that i think can be cut off..lol..please don't kill me guys!!

And of course...the Animation..it's perfectly done!!!not even a mistake that would make us say "wow looks fake"..i'm impress with that..and it makes me even stress for now im taking animation and gonna fail it..haha..there are too many great animators out there..and transformer's animation is great!!

the conclusion is the movie is great =.=...WORTH WATCHING...and please watch it..!!

alright i gonna stop here..i know it's short but i don't have much time now...feel free to drop a comment or review for the movie..it would be great to see what u guys think of the movie =)

ANYWAY!!that's my personal view..hope i didn't offend anyone..

3 Review

Movie : Race To Witch Mountain

Production : Los Angeles in March 2008

Release date: March 13, 2009.

Based on : Novel - 1968 - Alexander Key

===================================================================
Race to witch mountain is a re-imaging of escape to witch mountain (1975). both film are based on a novel escape to witch mountain by alexander key on 1968.

when i first saw this movie on the cinema list, i thought it's a fantasy-like film. i don't even know what the movie's about when i first enter the cinema. after a while i knew that it's about UFO, alien, and space that kind of thing.

unfortunately i missed out the beginning part of the movie. it's about news of UFO sightings around the world appear. and i guess there's some crashing kind of stuff?cause i watched in the trailer (will post here dont worry).

here's some quotes from imdb

Tia: My brother and I, we're not from your planet. Jack Bruno: Well, you don't look like aliens. Tia: What's an alien look like? Jack Bruno: You know what aliens look like! They're like little green people with antennas, and "Take me to your leader, Earthlings!" Jack Bruno: That's neat. Real neat. Jack Bruno: Don't go in the pimped out fridge Jack... Imperial Stormtrooper: Hey, Jack, the UFO convention's in town. Jack Bruno: I hadn't noticed. Jack Bruno: You do know how to fly this thing, right? Tony: How do you think we got here? Jack Bruno: Well, you crashed. Remember? Dr. Alex Friedman: [crawling through a tunnel] I get claustrophobic in tight palces. Jack Bruno: [as they come to a long shaft] How are you with heights?

Seriously there's not much i can talk about the movie. cause it really didn't make me go "wowww". i feel it's more like a kiddy show instead.

I'll start with the characters. Dwayne Johnson as John Bruno?hmm..i couldn't think of anyone else who can act better then him. He's strong, big, and he;s hilarious. if i'm not mistake this is his second disney film. i think he'll be getting more and more chance to further his career with disney =D

AnnaSophia Robb as Sara. She's the "kind" one in this movie. she trusted John Bruno (the human) . and is kind to everyone. compare to her brother seth, she's much easier to communicate. Her acting was okay too. so as her "brother" seth, play by Alexander Ludwig, the cute guy =D seems like they've had several acting lesson with some teacher.

Carla Gugino is a good choice for playing as Dr. Alex Friedman. she does have the scientist look. oh ya forgot to mention. a failed scientist.

Alright next is the camera works. i realize that they like to use high angle, and close up shot. i'm okay with both of the shots. there's two scene. im not sure if its at the same location. but it's a high angle car moving along the road. both of the shots look exactly like the same shots. although its two different vehicle. i wouldn't prefer both shots to be high angle. it's enough for one high angle shot. if both the shots are in high angle, it seems no different. nothing fresh, nothing interesting.(do not refer to the picture on the right. that's not a high angle)

Also i notice that there barely have any low angle shots. erm..not even one..correct me if i'm wrong. i was talking bout the two high angle shots. and i would prefer a low angle on the second shot. it will look better.

Next is the visual. i'm impress with it. every scene are well arranged. i didn't check out who's the art director but i love the visual of the movie. The animation..right..i HAVE to talk bout the animation. near the end of the movie when the cops shoot them, because of seth's special Solid ability, they're all save. the bullets didn;t hurt them. The animation looks fake. Just the bullet part. the other animation use in this movie are fine.

i didn't talk much about the storyline. cause i think it's best for you to watch it yourself. plus i missed out the beginning part. 5 minutes?or maybe 10 minutes..so i won't talk about the story here. i'll just post the trailer here.

5 Review

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is a film and the second live-action film based on the Street Fighter series of video games. Source : Wikipedia

==================================================================

i was struggling either to watch watchman or street fighter few hours ago. and finally chosen street fighter to watch today in the theatre with my sister.

An odd feeling about this movie. it wasn't bad. it's quite good. somehow i think that the whole movie lack of something. things that i can't really describe. okay..i'll do a very simple review here. i didn't know that the movie is about chun li. i thought all the character will appear.

I was thinking that this movie will confuse many people maybe? cause it's in so many language. i only catch four language there, which is english, cantonese, mandarin, thai, and i think there's one more language they used in the movie and i don't recognise it. Since i know how to speak english, mandarin, and cantonese..understanding the whole story won't seem to be a problem to me. but was wondering if someone don't get the meaning of the story.

CHUN LI...i've played the game before back in 1990s. and i always thought that Chun Li is a chinese. i didn't know that she's a mix blood. Cool~~lets go through the character and actors then. Kristin Kreuk was a really good choice for the Chun Li character. i think that she actually look abit like chinese. light tan, skinny body feature..etc...her acting was great in this movie. Oh ya..about her mandarin, i think she speak it quite well, her cantonese..(i think she needs to improve on that). since the movie was shown that Chun Li growed up at Hong Kong, she should know more cantonese.

From some angle GEN really look like the "gen" in street fighter. but one thing, i've seen that when chun li first met GEN, his hair weren't that white..is it their mistake?or my eye's problem?

Another actress that i'm not impress with is MAYA. her acting was awkward. its like she's thinking "what am i gonna do next" when she's playing MAYA. (sorry i didn't check out her name)

i discover another mistake, just a minor one. Chun Li speaks mandarin to his dad when they were young. Years after he met his daughter again, he speaks english to his daughter. would you go speak english to your father suddenly?

i won't be talking bout the camera work today cause i see nothing interesting to talk about.

The fighting are good..very interesting indeed. especially the speed of chun li. im sure everyone loves it.they sure done a great research on it. every fighting skill u see in game you see it here too. yet i find the inner energy (CHI) kinda fake. theres a scene where GEN heal Chun Li's wound with his CHI-inner power. it recover so fast. how possible..but since the origin is from a game it's not weird to see things like that.

That's all about Street Fighter-Legend of Chun Li.
I'm sorry if my critique offend you.but that's just from my point of view. everyone have their own opinion on certain movie. Overall i find the movie interesting and had a great day, time to spend. worth watching.
